Ticketing and Social Media: Who Will be King?
Last month, we learned that despite rumours and hype, Facebook still hadn’t jumped on the online ticket sale bandwagon. This is still the case. But why?
Eventbrite, the leading online event content and ticketing site has been integrating itself with Facebook, allowing its users to share events with friends on the social site. Third party applications such as TicketLeap, which provides online event registration and ticketing on Facebook has also been gaining popularity and cash. And still, Facebook has yet to acquire, partner or monetize these services.
Don’t get me wrong, I know the Z-meister probably has something up his sleeve. Next month’s blog could read: “Facebook eats Eventbrite for lunch and pushes TicketLeap down well.” I’m just surprised they haven’t tapped into the financial potential yet. It's probably a question of control, but when it happens, the service will be a powerful tool for frat party organizers and conference planners alike.
